Dorothea Bernique

Dorothea operates as Increasing Hope Financial Service’s Executive Director and visionary of the  nonprofit Financial Training Center.  Since 2003, Increasing H.O.P.E (Helping Others Prosper Economically) has been providing financial training educational opportunities to the local community.

As an Accredited Financial Counselor, Dorothea teaches and trains individuals on how to implement money management skills and strategies. This training improves financial literacy among individuals of all ages, within the local community and will result in a more productive life for individuals and families. Financial literacy training has been provided to community businesses, schools and non-profit organizations, including the YWCA, My Sister’s House and The Center for Women. 

Dorothea is dedicated and committed to seeing others become educated and empowered in the area of finances, especially women. She is a business partner with schools in the local area and spends time in the classroom teaching and instructing young people. Her time and talents are also given to local non-profit organizations as well as churches.

 Dorothea won  the HomeFree-USA Trailblazer Award, launched the Lowcountry dfree program and received the Opportunity Center Federal Grant Award to name a few of the accomplishments in 2019 from this  phenomenal organization.  We are so proud and excited to see what great things occur in 2020 for Dorothea and Increasing Hope Financial Services.

Empowering Women through Educational Scholarships

Today’s scholarship recipients are tomorrow’s leaders.  ABWA members have provided opportunities for women to achieve their personal and professional best by championing educational opportunities through the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund (SBMEF). Since 1953, SBMEF has awarded almost 18 million dollars in scholarships to more than 17,000 women. To learn more about available scholarships, go to sbmef.org.
